Reduction in cellular adhesiveness upon contact with a carcinogen.
نویسنده
چکیده
In the experiments reported below, the inner aspects of the pinnae of rabbits' ear~ were treated for 1 hour with the carcinogen 7,1~-dimethylbenzanthracene, 1 per ce~t ~n acetone. Other ears were treated with the nonearcinogen anthracene in aeetone, and still other ears were left untreated. Discs of skin were removed from these ears, and the relative adhesiveness of the epidermal cells was determined by mechanical shaking and cell counts. I t was shown that exposure to the carcinogen resulted in a decreased adhesiveness of the epidermal cells, suggesting that an alteration of the eet] surface had occurred within 1 hour after contact with the carcinogen. The findings are discussed and further studies suggested.

A review on recent techniques for elimination of fish fertilized egg adhesiveness
The eggs of many fresh water fishes become sticky after activation and contact with water. The stickiness property is caused by presence of glycoprotein molecules in outer layer of eggs. In sturgeons the fourth layer of egg (jelly coat) leaks after contacting with water. In teleosts outer zona-radiate is responsible for stickiness. Egg stickiness is important in natural reproduction, whereas eg...
متن کاملThe measurement of cell adhesiveness by an absolute method.
The development of a quantitative method for measuring cell adhesion would allow tests to be made of a variety of hypotheses concerning the role of cell adhesiveness in many morphogenetic processes, such as segregation (Steinberg, 1963; Curtis, 1960, 1967), contact inhibition of movement (Abercrombie, 1961), malignancy, etc. Furthermore, the development of a quantitative method giving absolute ...

Thermal Contact Conductance (TCC) between an exhaust valve and its seat is one of the important parameters to be estimated in an internal combustion engine. An experimental study presented here to acquire temperature in some interior points to be used as inputs to an inverse analysis. An actual exhaust valve and its seat are utilized in a designed and constructed setup. Conjugate Gradient Metho...
متن کاملCharacterization of Copper-Manganese Oxide Catalysts and Their Precursors: Effect of Precipitate Aging upon the Structure and Morphology of Precursors and Catalysts
Copper-manganese oxide catalysts are prepared with an atomic ratio of Cu/Mn=2/1 using a coprecipitation procedure under air atmosphere. The time of aging, i.e., the time that precipitate remains in contact with the precipitating medium, has been varied from 0 (for unaged precursor) to 300 minutes and the effect of precipitate aging time in each atmosphere upon the structure and morphology of di...
